At Bridge School, we offer a unique educational experience that blends the structure of a traditional elementary school with the warmth of a collaborative, community-oriented approach.
Here's a little more about how our school works:
1. A Full Day of Outdoor Education: One of the key features of Bridge School is our emphasis on outdoor learning. Each week, our students spend a full day engaged in outdoor education, where they explore nature, learn about sustainability, and develop important skills in environmental stewardship. It’s a hands-on, experiential way to learn, and we believe it fosters creativity, physical activity, and a deeper connection to the world around them.
2. Parent Involvement: While we have a team of licensed, professional teachers and paid staff, Bridge School is also a parent-supported school. We encourage parents to volunteer in the classrooms and assist with the running of the school. This cooperative aspect creates a vibrant and active school community, where parents, teachers, and students all contribute to a positive learning environment. As a homeschooling family, there’s no requirement unless you decide to enroll full time.
3. Focus on the Arts: At Bridge School, the arts are a fundamental part of the curriculum. Whether it’s visual arts, music, theater, or dance, we believe that creative expression is essential for children’s development. Our students engage in regular artistic projects that complement their academic studies and provide them with a well-rounded education.
4. A Balanced, Well-Rounded Education: In addition to outdoor education and the arts, our students benefit from a comprehensive academic program that covers subjects like math, science, language arts, and social studies. We aim to nurture the whole child, balancing academic rigor with opportunities for creativity, exploration, and personal growth.
5. Social-Emotional Learning: At Bridge School, we place a strong emphasis on social-emotional learning (SEL) as an integral part of our curriculum. We believe that developing emotional intelligence, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills is just as important as academic success. Our teachers work closely with students to help them build self-awareness, manage their emotions, and form positive relationships with peers. These skills are woven into our everyday interactions and activities, ensuring that students are not only growing intellectually but also emotionally and socially.
6. Commitment to Social Justice: Bridge School is dedicated to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and socially just environment. We proudly support and include LGBTQIA+ students and families, ensuring that everyone feels safe and valued. Additionally, we are committed to honoring and paying Real Rent to the Duwamish tribe, recognizing their stewardship of the land we occupy
